Good morning,

I'm curious to know how other companies have handled bulk deletion of email
on old backup tapes. We are at a point where we either need to determine a
reasonable policy for deleting this data or look at migrating it to newer storage
in order to make it readily accessible going forward. However, one concern in
moving the email to new storage is that we might be required to change the
format it is stored in. I know there are discovery guidelines dictating that
information should be kept/produced in its original format so I'm trying to
understand our obligations on this front.

At present, none of this email is on legal hold.

We are moving to an email management solution so we may be able to migrate
this data into the email management solution and have our retention policy
dictate final deletion. However, without a review of each email (which might
take years) it won't map perfectly to our schedule.

Any thoughts from those who have chartered these waters previously are
appreciated.

Thanks,
