My only comment to this would be based on the fact that Ray's firm
obviously does work with clients overseas, are there any requirements in
any of THOSE Countries that you maintain anything in paper and if so, then
I'd assume you'd need to keep those records in those formats for as long as
necessary.

I'd agree with David that the "one year" retention of any background
materials that are fully captured in the invoice seems logical- if the
client pays the bill, they have accepted and agreed to the charges, so
there should be no need to retain them longer.

And I wouldn't bother scanning any iof these items if they're being
retained in less than a year- a customary process I've sen is the backup to
an invoice is retained in an envelope or folder labeled with the associated
invoice number, chronologically and they are discarded CY+1 at a maximum.
