I know it is only Wednesday but tomorrow is technically my Friday and I wanted to start the weekly amblings, ramblings, or complaining early. So, my go at this is a simple question:

What is the most awful, dreaded, horror story of moving an office you have experienced?

I will start it off. As a gov't employee we seem to move about every 2 or 3 years, either to keep the moving contractor busy or for whatever the reason. About 5 years ago our group was moving from an inside area of the building to a window area but the amount of space we had for file cabinets and seating was greatly reduced. There were 2 cabinets or records that had moved around the entire building as well as another building from the beginning of time (1960 or so). When the group was told where we were moving to another person and I, mostly me, asked our boss if he needed any of these old files or could we recycle them. He told us to recycle them, even though we found original signatures. To make a long story short we threw away about 40 years of historical records (hysterical might be better). While most of them were contained within other documents, these items were more sentimental than anything. It was shortly after that event that I began to study all about records to become more familiar with what makes a record. Those records will never be recovered nor will the memories they contained, but we all learned a lesson in preserving history.
