Martha,
I think you are asking a question similar to the email retention policy
discussion.  "Hardcopy" is a media (don't apply retention to media); and
"legal records" is a very broad category for one retention requirement.  In
general, many if not most legal records have a "close date" or "final
judgment date" which can be used as an "event" from which the retention
requirement can be applied, but in my experience "case files" and "final
judgment files" generally have a different retention after the event as
well as other "legal type" records.  As for "archiving" are you referring
to "storage" or "permanent retention".  These are all variables that need
to be defined.
