David said "Are there opportunities in the RIM world that present themselves to someone who really embraces archiving?"

One area in which I believe both professions overlap is digital preservation.

As the volume of digital records retained for very long periods of time increases, so does the need for people educated on both professions.

HOWEVER, students in archives programs, and recent graduates, must understand that many, if not most, jobs in digital preservation will be found in organisations outside of the world of traditional archives, libraries and museums.

People seeking employment in these areas must prepare themselves for organisational cultures and behaviours rather different from those of the world of traditional archives, libraries and museums.
