David replied:

"1) These systems process data, making it extremely difficult to store the content in the ECM without duplicating it." 

and

"2) Generally, data in such systems is better identified and managed than it is in the free-for-all environments of DM, shared drives, etc."

I agree.

I had raised the question because it seemed to me David had cast his discussion as the management of electronic content generally, not the more specific question of managing electronic content within an Electronic Content Management SYSTEM (i.e., an application).
