Everyone,

I have only been in Records for four years, so I am far from understanding the total scope of the position.  To that end, I was given a new duty that I am questioning as to whether it should be in the Records area.  So here is the question - should a Records Manager have the responsibility of managing document control numbers?  To me it is not an official record and should be managed by the department wanting the numbers assigned and not Records.  Help me understand all angles as my original open mind to it is quickly shrinking.
