Don't know about chat rooms, but for IMs, the quick answer is to turn off all
systematic archiving of Lync/Skype for Business; your litigators and
employment attorneys will probably like that. However, there is a negative
impact to mobile device functionality if you do that so be aware of this. We
have had to consider allowing a few day archive ability in order to allow for
optimal mobile usage.
In the end, a user can copy and paste anything so that is out of your control,
but you can use that in your favor when arguing against systematic
archiving. You also have the ability to allow 'user' archiving, but a user has to
select that option themselves. This can work well.
