Couldn't agree more with Patrick.
While living on the East Coast my preferred airline was USAir and because
they were part of an alliance with United I could get points whenever I
flew United. Now everything has transferred to the new AA. Status is
everything on the airlines. As for miles runs I was planning on a miles run
to Hong Kong over the Thanksgiving holidays, would have picked up 18K plus
bonus miles. BUT, personal situation has put that aside. may still do a run
somewhere in December. if not ill buy points.

yes pick a preferred hotel chain as each chain has a multitude of brands
associated with it. for example Hilton (my preferred) has Hilton, Hilton
Garden Inns, Embassy Suites and Hampton Suites just to name a few.

as for transportation i've always been able to select which vendor to use,
but Hertz Gold was nice because you arrived at the airport saw your name on
the big board walked out got in the car and drove off.

one thing i have learned while on business travel is to treat the airline
and hotel employees like you wanted to be treated. It is amazing how that
ticket agent or hotel desk clerk can magically make your trip better.

pak

ps - see everyone in DC
