Subject: [RECORDS-MANAGEMENT-UK] ISO 15489 revision process almost over
To: [log in to unmask]

Here is a quick update on where we are in the ISO 15489 revision process.
You may recall that the BSI review panel voted NO to the Draft
International Standard (DIS) following public consultation as they had
significant technical comment on the document. The BSI proposal that a
Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) be created, taking account of
member state technical comments, was accepted.

The FDIS was released to Member States revision panels to review on 7
December 2015 and the ISO Ballot closes on the 7 February 2016 with voting
options to approve, disapprove or abstain – only minor editorial correction
comments can be made with this ballot.

If the text is approved by the required majority vote, ISO will send it for
ratification and thereafter member states will individually adopt the text
– in the BSI case as BS ISO 15489 2016 – unless they choose not to adopt it
as their national standard. Member states can produce their own national
foreword (informative text) and also supporting guidance documentation to
aid national interpretation and implementation – BSI did this for the
current 15489 standard with the PD0025 series implementation guides.

It is expected that if this FDIS is approved, which seems likely, it will
be published mid 2016

Finally, can I draw your attention to the ISO Records Management committee
(TC46/SC11) public web site which went live last August and can be viewed
at https://committee.iso.org/tc46sc11 . The site provides information on
current projects and published standards within the jurisdiction of this
ISO committee.

Cheers

Heather
