Basically what Larry said. I always get a chuckle out of the latest storage
media like the one posted earlier that will last longer than the universe.
I mean, talk about hubris!

But the issue with access to digital information over time has much less to
do with the storage media and much more to do with the data structures,
both those used to encode individual files as Larry described, and to some
extent those used to describe the manner in which the various files are
stored on the storage media in question. In other words, with reasonable
storage, your CDs/DVDs will probably last longer than our meaningful
ability to read the digital documents on them, and the more
complex/proprietary the file type, the more this is true. Open standards
can mitigate this somewhat, but probably not entirely.
