PRESERVATION 101: Preservation Basics for Paper and Media Collections
A Ten-Week, Interactive, Instructor-Led Course
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
- Staff members or volunteers at libraries, archives, museums, historical societies, or other cultural institutions
- Library and information science students or recent graduates
- Town and municipal clerks, county commissioners, or other government records stewards
- Corporate archivists or records managers
PRESERVATION 101 provides a foundation in core principles of preservation using live webinars, online readings, and a class blog. Participants learn to assess their own collections and create recommendations for a long-range preservation plan. The course is comprised of ten two-hour sessions (2-4 PM ET), once a week, starting May 26, 2016. All sessions are recorded for access after the class.
PRESERVATION 101 BENEFITS:
- The course prepares participants to complete a preservation needs assessment and provides structured guidance on developing an institutional disaster plan.
- Participants have the opportunity to interact with colleagues who share similar challenges.
- Participants receive a Preservation 101 certificate of completion.
- Eligible certified archivists earn 20 Archival Recertification Credits (ARCs).
