Good afternoon everyone,

My name is Laura Chapman and I work in a municipal government office in
Ontario as an administrative support person. I am fairly new to the list
serve, I have never replied as I am still learning about records
management and have not had any expertise to offer to this point.

We installed a 14 carriage system in a file room less than a year ago. It
is electronic which is the only way I would want to use this kind of
system. Hand cranking would take forever if you need to change aisles very
often. Aside from the comments already made about lighting and load
bearing for the floor, the biggest irritant in our file room is that we can
only have one aisle open at a time. This means that if you want to have
more than one person working in the system, everyone must work in the same
section. They'd better really like each other.

When the new system was installed, the decision was made to change all of
our existing folders from top tabs to end tabs (90,000 - 100,000 client
files). The space gained allowed another shelf on each carriage and vastly
increased the number of files that could be stored. Standard records
retention boxes (banker boxes) *will not fit* on our shelves.

Best regards,
Laura Chapman
