Hi Michael,

Since I didnıt see any responses to this Iıll take a shot at doing so.

A Source of Truth (SoT) is a data source (e.g. an application, database,
file repository) that is deemed to have the highest levels of accuracy,
quality, and consistency for a specific Data/Record Type. In many complex
environments, we might get different representations of the same Data Record
that come in from different channels. For example, when it comes to a
³Person² type, we might have different representations for ³Jane Doe² that
come in from different channel systems (e.g. the Marketing System, the Sales
System, the Customer Support System). Each might collect her name different
ways (³Jane Doe², ³Doe, J.² etc.) and each might not have all the attributes
we care about for a complete person record. To address this, enterprises
usually work to create a new ³master² representation of ³Jane Doe² that
provides the most acceptable and complete representation of her. The system
they put these mastered records into may be deemed the System of Truth (SoT)
for all downstream systems or people that need complete and comprehensive
records of people, in standard formats.

Having said thisŠ I would suggest that Sources of Truth go beyond handling
just Integrity. They also handle Quality, Standard Representations/Formats,
etc.

NOTE: Just because something has been deemed a SoT for a specific functions
does not mean that it is the SoT for all functions. For example, downstream
financial reporting and billing may require that newly mastered SoT.
However, for the upstream Sales Team, the view of ³Jane Doe² they see in
their unmastered Sales System might be the master for them for and for
functions like Sales Account Management. (Clearly, this creates other
complexity problems.)

Regarding the use of Veracity vs. VoracityŠ good catch. Spell checking was
clearly useless for this. Iıll have someone update it.

Let me know if I answered your question properly or not. Iım happy to help.

My Best,

Frank
