Hi Everyone,

I agree that Distributed Ledger Technology (blockchain) is getting limited time in the spot-light…when the light is held by the records management community. Sure, we hear about cryptocurrencies and some leading manufacturers – big blue - talk about blockchain solutions, but what does that really mean? What does that (distributed vs. centralized) mean to science and principles of records management, and what does its introduction mean to the records management profession?

This May at the National Educational Conference on the Management of Electronic Records, the MER Conference, the keynote speaker, Ashish Gadnis, founder and CEO of BanQu, will kick off with a talk called, Dignity Through Identity: Tackling Human Problems with Blockchain. https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.merconference.com_sessions_s1-2Dopening-2Dkeynote-2Ddignity-2Dthrough-2Didentity-2Dtackling-2Dhuman-2Dproblems-2Dwith-2Dblockchain_&d=DwIGaQ&c=pZJPUDQ3SB9JplYbifm4nt2lEVG5pWx2KikqINpWlZM&r=b5NZPQUb9_r2rQ3Zd74ATT3aSs9yKyRnJLOhqJvd7fE&m=_HmSrTz_9e9D1cCFg7vEBVQUntHoz5JZB39a7cYkOVA&s=Y-OGmE5ORF_HjfLDiMsuMx39gsxEyJZwK19vTzgYys4&e=

That keynote will be followed by panel discussion titled, the Future of Blockchain, facilitated by Jason R. Baron, Esq. formerly of the National Archives and now of Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP with panelists: Barclay T. Blair of the Information Governance Initiative, Aaron Crews, Esq. of Littler Mendlson P.C., and Laura E. Jehl, Esp. of BakerHostetler. https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.merconference.com_sessions_s2-2Dthe-2Dfuture-2Dof-2Dblockchain-2Da-2Dpanel-2Ddiscussion_&d=DwIGaQ&c=pZJPUDQ3SB9JplYbifm4nt2lEVG5pWx2KikqINpWlZM&r=b5NZPQUb9_r2rQ3Zd74ATT3aSs9yKyRnJLOhqJvd7fE&m=_HmSrTz_9e9D1cCFg7vEBVQUntHoz5JZB39a7cYkOVA&s=rjRbTg1QnRpGu49QkEA3O7ACs77aMvSK0VH529EA_IU&e=

We are delighted to bring this topic center stage. Please join us in May. www.merconference.com

Kind Regards,

Seth F. Williams

Everyone is talking about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. But what a lot of
people may not be know is the underlying technology behind
cyrptocurrency. Given many potential applications of blockchain, it is
surprising that blockchain is not getting the same level of attention as
Bitcoin or other crytocurrencies. According to a report from a research
analyst at the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), crypto and blockchain
technology could unlock $10 trillion market. A lot has been written about
blockchain technology. In a simple term, blockchain is a special type of a
distributed ledger database. A distributed ledger is simply a database that
exists across several locations or among multiple participants. A
distributed ledger system allows organization of any chain of records or
transactions without the need of intermediaries.
