This is all from memory -- when I was employed in financial services and may be out of date. However, I believe it depends if you are under federal or state regulations.  For those under state regs the requirements vary by state -- with I believe Vermont having the longest retention period. At the federal level I believe that it is 2  yrs after gfe was required to be issued.
