Depending upon your church's denomination, you can look up your
denomination's recommendations for records management. Among North
American denominations, the following have guides online:

Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Presbyterian Church, USA

Episcopal Church

Reformed Church in America

Disciples of Christ

Roman Catholic (look up your diocese)

United Methodist

United Church of Canada

Brethren

Other guides include:
