Salmonella is also a hazard.  Use masks and rubber gloves.  Document the
destroyed records as I now some may be unrecoverable.  The pet shops use
masks and gloves for daily cleaning, so I would assume the same process.
I would have the records reproduced to avoid any future risks with full
disclosure to the company performing the reproduction task.

Check with your local health department for written guidelines.
