This may not be the solution you are looking for, but an alternative is to
(at least while the files are on-site) remove the CDs from the files, place
a label on the file jacket noting the alternative location within the file
room, and store the CDs in a more appropriate housing system within the file
room. This is one of those cases where different media requires different
storage treatment. It may be a bit inconvenient, but it will help preserve
the materials. When a file is needed and a label appears - have the person
pulling the case retrieve the CD and put it back in the file before
delivering to the requestor.

This process also may require wither the file room knowing CDs exist in the
files, or checking for them when a matter first is placed in the file room.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [RM] CD Protection within a File Folder

I'm hoping that someone has a similar experience and has found a
solution that works. More of our clients are sending their documents to
us on CDs. Since our file system is primarily paper based, the
attorneys and staff have been sending these CDs to the file room for
inclusion in their matter folders. I've already had a CD break because
of the rough handling the files receive when they are placed on or
removed from the shelves. I've tried the bubble wrap mailers and hard
plastic cases, but the CDs are still breaking. Has anyone found a
product that will truly protect them?
