The Certified Associate in Project Manager (CAPM), as Jesse refers to,
is what I would consider a PMP-Light; the application requirements are
less stringent and the test is 150 questions versus 200 for the PMP.
CAPM's must meet all the requirements for the PMP within a three year
time frame or lose the credential. The NS, or Nuclear Specialist, is an
advanced industry specific designation; one must be a CRM to sit for the
NS exam.

Call me hard headed (I am part German) - I'm just not sold on the
concept of a sub-CRM credential, not at this time anyway. I haven't
seen any arguments to date which would convince me otherwise (Yes,
Whitaker and I DO agree on something.) The accounting profession has
done extremely well with one credential all these years. But I speak
for only myself and not as a board member.

As an aside, I didn't feel the CAPM was necessary when PMI first
proposed the idea and still have some reservations even now. I suppose
it is a way for individuals to get their foot into the door but not sure
how much more meaning it carries. When one gets down to brass-tacks,
most employers seeking credentialed project management professionals
want PMPs.
