And another reason:

There were some articles a year or so ago reporting on research into why
DVD's sometimes shatter at high revs. The primary cause was people forcing
them out of the container by lifting the edges (as you do with CD's) rather
than pushing on the centre button.

The result is cracks around the hole, and eventually bits of shart plastic
flying around the room.
