And variations on the "until no longer needed..." still exist in NARA's
General Records Schedules - Mostly in newer schedules (20 and upward) - not
to mention those in the many agency-specific schedules.  

I try to stay away from those retention periods as well as retaining records
for extended period, "Just because..." as frequently as possible.

PS - A quick search of the GRS showed over 50 or so hits on "no longer."

Has been in the state of KY for decades - for transitory records.
Technically it's a retention period, the policy comes later.

The idea is that the agency is responsible for setting their own retention
standards for the records in question.  Whether they actually do, is an
entirely different question.  This retention period is primarily used with
records that agencies can keep for their own use, but are still recognized
"officially" by the State Archives and Records Commission.  Because, without
being on a schedule, they can't legally be destroyed.
