Hi, Melissa.

Forgive me but I must first heartily disagree with you about something
you said -- records management is NOT a dry subject! If ever there was
an exciting, invigorating, challenging time to be in records management,
it is now. If you come across thinking RM is dry and boring, your
audience/internal customers will pick up on it.

Presently and in the past, I've been involved with training, program
kickoffs, shred days, records "cleanup" days and the like. I always try
to meet folks where they're at, using common examples of things they are
already familiar with. I've had trainees organize an eclectic array of
CDs to demonstrate the various ways to organize information (by artist,
genre, title, year of release, etc.). We have also purchased and used
Randy Glasbergen's cartoons (http://www.glasbergen.com/cat.html) in
presentations and newsletters. In some settings, I've used fun
exercises where the trainees had to match up glossary terms and
definitions (winners get a prize), or gather in small groups to work
through different legal/regulatory/business records scenarios.

Have fun with it according to your organization's culture and be the
Records Management Champion. Get excited about records and they will,
too! And snacks (particularly chocolate) never hurts!

Best of luck with your program kickoff,

Stephanie McCutcheon, MLIS, CRM

Subject: [RM] Ice Breaker forInformation Records Management

We are embarking on kicking off our Enterprise -wide records management
program . This program has been in the design and create stage for over
a year now - as you can imagine, we are a bit excited and nervous.

One of the challenges is making it fun without being too goofy. That
said I am looking for an ice breaker we can use as we initiate the
program.
Does anyone have any ideas for something that would engage, represent
record management core deliverables and add a bit of fun to a very dry
subject?

Thank you in advance
Melissa
