Dear all,

For your information: The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is the
global governing body of the Paralympic Movement. The IPC organizes the
Summer and Winter Paralympic Games, and serves as the International
Federation for 13 sports, for which it supervises and co-ordinates the World
Championships and other competitions. The IPC is committed to enabling
Paralympic athletes to achieve sporting excellence and to developing sport
opportunities for all persons with a disability from the beginner to elite
level. In addition, the IPC aims to promote the Paralympic values, which
include courage, determination, inspiration and equality.

Founded on 22 September 1989, the IPC is an international non-profit
organization formed and run by 162 National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) from
five regions and four disability specific international sports federations
(IOSDs). The IPC Headquarters and its management team (currently approx. 30)
are located in Bonn, Germany.

In different locations on our website you can find statements that could be
read as "mission statements" relating to the IPC Documentation Centre
(archives, library, exhibition) and to Records Management, for which I am
also responsible. For the moment, we chose "Information Management" as a
cover term.

nter/)

"5. To support and encourage educational, cultural, research and scientific
activities that contributes to the development and promotion of the
Paralympic Movement."
/2006_05_Strategic_Plan_2006_2009_final.pdf, p. 3)

One of IPC's strategic goal is:
"#5 - Global Recognition:
The Paralympic brand is defined and globally recognized, understood and
valued.
Outcome:
A brand with defined attributes and clear messages that is recognized in the
sporting environment, instantly understood by the general public and the
media and valued by partners.
[...]
5. To ensure the capturing, cataloguing, conservation and access to the
history and legacy of the Paralympic Movement"
/2006_05_Strategic_Plan_2006_2009_final.pdf, p. 9)

Another strategic goal can also be interpreted as having a relation to RM
practices:
"#1 - High-performing organization
The IPC is a high performing democratic sporting organization that abides by
its values and is dedicated to excellence.
Outcome:
An efficient organization with a clear governance structure and concise
strategic direction, which supports reliable operations.
[...]
2. To establish and maintain the financial and legal frameworks required by
the German laws and aligned with international best practices."

/2006_05_Strategic_Plan_2006_2009_final.pdf, p. 5)

Kind regards

Stefanie Pohle
