Thanks to everyone for the comments and help.
I do work in the banking arena. As for the types of policies, we have both
types (internal and external). A lot of the comments I have been receiving
are giving guidance to permanent retention.

Ben:
A couple of questions.
Note: It appears from your e-mail address that you work in the banking
arena.
My first question is when you refer to policy, are you speaking to a broad
edict from upper management, and not department-level procedures. These are
sometimes confused.
My second question is, are these policies internal (not directed at
customers) or external (directed at customers). In the federal government,
where I did consulting for a number of agencies) one was referred to as
policy, while the other was directives.
These will lead to better answers to your question(s).

Subject: [RM] Retention for Policies
Although I do not believe there are any regulations or legal retention
requirements, does anyone have any thoughts on the retention period for
past/superseded policies? I am struggling with two ideas....one where you
keep versions of old policies indefinitely (in case of litigation where
counsel wants to see policy at the time in question); and finally the idea
of
keeping only the current version of the policy. Any thoughts are welcome.
Thank you.
