This is a very interesting question and challenges us to define what the
record is (and is not) for processes that use such structured database
applications to perform business activities and create work products.
What I generally tell people is that a record is something that cannot
be changed, not something in constant flux.  Therefore, a database
cannot be a record.  However, records can be generated from that
database, such as a report or other business output.  That gives us the
ability to designate the output as the record, freeing the database to
operate as it was designed.

I know that others in this forum will have other perspectives ... that's
why this kind of discussion is FUN!
