Remember folks, a "piece of paper" can have different retention periods
depending on which file it is put.  I don't know how many of you
remember the multi-copies carbon forms with their white, yellow, pink,
blue, and green flimsies, but I do. Each color was filed in a different
set of files and the retention periods may have been different depending
on the purpose of the file. Back in the middle ages of filing when I was
working as a temp summers between college semester, some jobs involved
me filing those colored flimsies.
