Doug, may I suggest that you carefully re-read my message. I did not
ask the question because I did not know the answer. I asked the
question to obtain different points of views (in any) from the
membership. The purpose was to spur debate among the membership, as
clearly stated. There is need for personal attacks or to belittle a
participant's question or response. I believe that the primary purpose
of the list serve is to educate and share points of views. To attack an
individual (especially one that you do not know) is contrary to the
purpose of the list serve.

Since I do not know you personally, I will refrain from attacking you
publically.

In response to Bill Manago's posting on the Destruction of Vital
Records...

"Here is a question that I hope spurs interesting debate. Should
records
that are deemed vital be exempt from destruction, regardless of what the
disposition instructions or retention schedules indicate?"

As a CRM, I certainly hope that anyone with the CRM designation would
understand: (1) the definition of a vital record, (2) that there are
significant differences among different records series that are
considered to be vital with regard to retention requirements, and (3)
how best to dispose of vital records. It strikes me that there should
be very little debate on this topic among those who have attained the
certification.
