I agree with you to a certain extent.  However, these seminar companies are very in touch with executives or staff that have attended in the past and have had positive experiences from their attendance.  The big guys get feedback from attendees that are impressed by what they attended so when they hear something is being presented by that same company on a hot topic for them they want to go or send a representative.  So if that presentation was all so basic that not of the hot areas like frcp or E-discovery hae good representation in the presentations it's not in our favor.
 
They are more in sync with these companies than they are with ARMA.  Make use of what will sell the point.  If you can convince them of ARMA vs. these seminar companies great.  If you can't make sure what these seminar compnies present kicks!

presented at several of them a few years ago) sponsor could be done by
ARMA chapters. $$$
