        Description of Work
THE NORTH CAROLINA ARCHIVES AND RECORDS SECTION, A LEADER IN ADDRESSING THE CHALLENGES OF PRESERVING DIGITAL INFORMATION, IS SEEKING AN INNOVATIVE AND FORWARD-THINKING ARCHIVIST TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE IN DEVELOPINGAND IMPLEMENTING A DIGITAL ARCHIVES. THE POSITION WORKS CLOSELY WITH STAFF IN THE STATE ARCHIVES, THE STATE LIBRARY, STATE AGENCIES, LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS TO ASSIST AND PROVIDE CONSULTATION TO THE SAME REGARDING TECHNOLOGY AND ELECTRONIC RECORDS; ASSISTS IN TESTIN
G AND EVALUATING OF TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS; AND WORKS WITH THE ELECTRONIC RECORDS ARCHIVIST TO COMMUNICATE PROGRAM NEEDS, INTERPRET TECHNICAL INFORMATION, AND ACQUIRE AND IMPLEMENT TECHNOLOGIES TO SUPPORT FUNCTIONS.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE CONDUCTING MONTHLY WORKSHOPS AND ADVISING ON METADATA STANDARDS FOR COLLECTIONS. THIS POSITION ALSO ASSISTS WITH FACILITATION OF DIGITAL PRESERVATION POLICY DEVELOPMENT AND BUILDINGPUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE ARCHIVES OF STATE GOVERNMENT WEBSITES AND DIGITAL RECORDS. DUTIES ALSO INCLUDE ARRANGEMENT AND DESCRIPTION OF STATE AGENCY AND LOCAL RECORDS, AND ELECTRONIC MAIL. OCCASSIONAL SATURDAY WORK IN
THE STATE ARCHIVES SEARCH ROOM REQUIRED. MET ESC REQUIREMENTS AS OF 11/18/2008.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
MUST HAVE PROVEN COMMUNICATION, STRATEGIC ANALYSIS, PROBLEM RESOLUTION,DECISION-MAKING, AND PROJECT PLANNING SKILLS. MUST POSSESS THE ABILITIES TO INITIATE, CULTIVATE, AND SUSTAIN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH PEOPLE IN VARYING POSITIONS AND PROFESSIONAL DISCIPLINES; ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN DIGITAL PRESERVATION COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE, LOCALLY AND NATIONALLY; AND EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATE PROGRAM CONCEPTS AND PRACTICES
INTERNALLY AND EXTERNALLY. EXPERIENCE IN A DIGITAL REPOSITORY ENVIRONMENT OR WITH TOOLS/TECHNOLOGIES THAT FACILITATE HARVESTING, COLLECTING, MANAGING, DESCRIBING, PRESERVING OR ACCESSING ELECTRONCI RECORDS PREFERRED. CONSIDERABLE KNOWLEDGE OF RECORDS AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT TECHN
IQUES AND PRACTICES AS WELL AS KNOWLEDGE OF ARCHIVAL THEORY AND PRACTICE. CONSIDERABLE KNOWLEDGE OF COMPUTER HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE, TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE RELATED TO DATABASE CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE. KNOWLEDGE OF WEBSITE CONSTRUCTION AND WEB SITE ARCHIVING. CERTIFIED ARCHIVIST
(CA) OR CERTIFIED RECORDS MANAGER (CRM) PREFERRED; VALID NC DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIRED. FOR INTERNAL PURPOSES: BEACON # 60083367.
Training and Experience Requirements
BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN HISTORY, PUBLIC HISTORY, PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION, OR A RELATED SOCIAL SCIENCE DISCIPLINE AND ONE YEAR OF ARCHIVAL OR RECORDS MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE; OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE. ALL DEGREES MUST BE RECEIVED FROM APPROPRIATELY ACCREDITED INSTITUTIONS.

THIS POSITION IS EQUIVALENT TO A SALARY GRADE 69. THE POSITION IS AT THE JOURNEY COMPETENCY LEVEL.
