Don't know if anyone has responded with this since I have not read all
the posts but one issue you have is the flash drive itself becoming
corrupt if it is not "Safely Removed". I have seen a drive get
corrupted when someone just pulls the flash drive out.

Something you could do is add a external drive ($100) to the network and
let people back up to this drive.

Good luck.

Subject: thumb drives as backups?

Hello,
I was hoping someone might be able to give me some insight. Our local
country club is trying to figure out the most cost effective way to back
up their records. At the moment they are just backing everything up on a
flash drive and locking it in the safe every night. My first instinct
was that this is not the best way. but as I thought about it they are a
very small organization with only one person maintaining records and
almost all of the records are from quickbooks so perhaps this would be
the most economical.
Does any one have some feed back on whether using the flash drive/thumb
drive is their best solution or is there some other way which is
relatively inexpensive that they could back up their files with?
Thanks So much
Courtney Ryan
