Seeing as this will also impact any Federal employees I'm wondering if NARA
is intending to revise the General Records Schedules (GRS) for employment,
hiring, promotion, or payroll records to ensure they are retained for
sufficient periods to respond to any claims?
I'd think when legislation is enacted that extends the period by which an
employees can file a claim against an employer, it would make good business
sense to increase the retention periods from that day forward to be able to
respond to any claims filed.
If I'm not mistaken, in the case of Federal Records, this would require a
posting to the Federal Register for a public review period of a proposed
change, so that may be something to key off of if your organization doesn't
decide to do this proactively.
