Records Paradigm Shift - Case Study: How we brought it all together by Keith
Atteck
The presentation discusses some of Vale Inco's business issues related to
information management, their RIM Program, Document Control Practice and
the supporting systems and tools. The presentation describes the journey
taken over the past 10 years to get to where Vale Inco is today and the
lessons learned. This is a case study on one company's way of shedding paper
and dealing with a new way of doing business in the digital world
Keith Atteck, C.Tech. ERM of Vale Inco has 29 years experience in engineering
design, construction management and document control for capital projects.
In 1995, Keith joined Inco Limited as a designer working on many R&D projects
and global capital projects. In 1996 he participated in the first selection
process of an EDM system to manage technical documents. In 2000 Keith
took on the document control role for the 1.4 Billion Dollar Goro Nickel Project
where he set-up Hummingbird DM. Since then Keith has implemented this
practice on a global scale on several multi-billion dollar capital projects. Keith
is a member of ARMA and of AIIM.

You can design and implement a comprehensive, legally-defensible and
standards-compliant IM program, but success will be very uncertain if
stakeholders don’t value IM services.
This presentation will introduce fundamental marketing principles to help IM
professionals understand stakeholders’ needs, develop strategies to
communicate the value of IM and create a plan to raise the profile of IM within
their organizations.
Sheila Taylor is the General Manager CONDAR Consulting Inc.’s – Southern
Ontario office. She applies marketing principles in the development of IM
strategies, business cases, and employee training. In addition to teaching
workshops at the University of Toronto’s Professional Learning Centre, she
speaks and writes regularly on a variety of IM topics, and is an active ARMA
member at the local, regional and international levels.
11:00 – 11:45 Exploring Unusual Electronic Evidence by Andy Joyce
This session explores both the usual and the unusual sources of electronic
evidence and outlines the forensic methodology to preserve, collect, analyze
and present this evidence in Court. You'll see computer forensic techniques
that will show what can and cannot be recovered during the collection and
analysis of electronic evidence.
Andy Joyce is a Manager of Digital Forensics and eDiscovery at FDR Forensic
Data Recovery Inc. He has investigated a wide range of complex, international
major Internet crimes and testified as an expert computer forensic witness in
the Crown courts of the United Kingdom, including the Old Bailey. He has
successfully led multiple eDiscovery engagements and has been the lead
investigator on numerous computer forensic engagements, including network
intrusion, intellectual property theft and government investigations. Mr. Joyce
served as a detective in the UK for 13 years, where his work focused on
computer crime, network intrusion, child exploitation and terrorism
investigations involving computers.

1:00-1:45 Capture This!” by Franz Gangl
This session speaks to the challenge of enforcing electronic records
management policy in a distributed capture environment. As well, one will
learn how to integrate capture with products like Sharepoint and
merge records management with common collaboration tools.
Given Franz's consultative selling approach and years of real-world business
experience, attendees will leave with helpful tips for solving business document
challenges.
Franz Gangl is the Enterprise Services Manager, IKON Office Solutions, A Ricoh
Company. Franz has over 18 years of experience in the document and
electronic records management field. At Canon Canada for the first 7 years,
Franz developed technical and sales training programs in digital output and
document imaging solutions. In 1997, Franz moved to IKON where he acquired
expertise as a Colour communication Specialist, Document Management
Consultant, Solution Consultant, and Manager of Professional Services.
Currently, his team has successfully implemented document solutions at major
commercial and government clients throughout Eastern Canada. Franz has
spoken at various organization meetings including ARMA, AMCTO, AMO,
Insurance Canada and the OPBA.

4:00- 4:45 “Managing Instant Messaging – just a larger email iceberg?” by Paul
Fisher MLS, CRM, CDIA, Senior. Manager, Bearing Point LP
The use of Instant Messaging (IM) technology in a corporate environment is
rapidly becoming the next iceberg for Information Professionals to navigate
around. Like its communication cousin email, the majority of the concerns
around how to manage IM lie beneath the surface, but IM in turn has a number
of unique issues that the Information Professional community has not had to
contend with before. This session will present the IM view from an information
management perspective identifying the current information environment, the
concerns related to that environment and what every organization should be
considering now and in the future.
Paul Fisher is a Senior Manager with BearingPoint LP, and is a management and
information technology consulting company. Prior to working for BearingPoint,
Paul was a consultant in the Portals and Content Management Practice, a unit
within e-business Integration Solutions, a division of IBM Global Services. He
has worked with clients in the public and private sector, including utilities, real
estate, financial institutions, pharmaceuticals, energy resources,
manufacturing and communications.
Paul has developed strategic information management plans, classification and
indexing structures, retention schedules and policies/procedures
documentation. He currently develops business and functional specifications
for document and records management solutions and supports their
implementation. Paul is a frequent speaker with industry associations such as
the Canadian Information Processing Society and Association of Records
Managers & Administrators.
