When Lorinda Kasten-Lowerre mentioned not changing name at marriage, it
brought to mind the issue I had when I married in 1976 in Texas and
wanted to use a hyphenated name. The DOT would not allow me to use a
hyphenated name on my driver's license. I had to work the issue
politically and finally on the third try got to put Mary Denker-Hilliard
on the license. Also had to tackle the issue with SS records. Later,
after having children, I didn't care and now a widow, I don't use the
hyphenated name any more.....but it is still my legal name and trying to
change it now is usually a hassle I just ignore.
Mary Hilliard

Subject: [RM] Chosen Married Name
Hi,
When I married in California in 1980, I did not change my name on my
marriage certificate or on the marriage license application, I had to
change it with the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Social Security
Administration (the bigger pain).
Lorinda Kasten-Lowerre
