I have been reviewing this thread for the last several days and while
I am not certain I agree with Mr. Glover's conclusion, I thank him for
posting the PRISM International Code of Ethics.
In case members of this list are unfamiliar with PRISM (Professional
Records and Information Services Management) International and our
Code of Ethics, we are a trade association, (our members are
organizations not individuals), of information outsourcing companies.
Our members include not only physical records and information
management outsourcing companies but also data protection services
providers, imaging conversion services and confidential destruction
services providers (though NAID is more focused in the destruction
area than PRISM International is). We frequently cooperate with ARMA,
the ARMA International Educational Foundation, and just this year
signed a memorandum of understanding with the Records Management
Association of AustralAsia. We consult and cooperate with other
information management associations as well, such as AIIM and ICA.
PRISM International is quite serious about its Code of Ethics. If
there are those on this list who feel that the actions of a PRISM
International member violate the code of ethics of our organization,
here is the procedure for reporting the violation:
1) A written complaint stating the specific actions taken by the PRISM
International member that are in violation of the code of ethics
should be sent to me at [log in to unmask] or sent by mail to the
address of PRISM International shown below.
2) Once a complaint is received, I notify the President of our
organization who then refers the complaint to our Ethics Complaint
Committee for investigation. The committee gathers relevant facts from
both parties and then makes a recommendation to our President as to
whether the complaint should be heard by our Board of Directors.
3) If the President refers the matter to the Board, parties may appear
with counsel and make formal presentations. The Board of PRISM
International sits as a jury during these proceedings and renders a
decision that can include, at its harshest level, expulsion from the
membership of PRISM International.
Thanks for the opportunity to re-introduce our organization to newer
members of the list and to clarify our ethics complaint procedures.
Sincerely,
Jim
