I think the article, along with the following one we encountered locally on Friday, shows what can happen when one "shoots from the hip" when using e-mail, blogs, tweets, etc.  Folks have to stop and think about what they write and how they write it before it leaves their device.  After all these years with e-mail and its regulatory and news ramifications, and folks still use electronic communication like a phone call.
