I understood it this was as well Ginny, but would like to offer a couple of
thoughts on the subject.

Most retention schedules, whether they are functional or organizational in
construct break records down into series and then provide a citation and
retention period for that series- seldom do they go down to the level of
naming specific items within a series.

While it is correct to state that all records should be included in a
retention schedule, and also that it is a good practice to identify records
that may be considered vital on that schedule, seldom do ALL records in a
given series qualify as vital to an organization.   

It might be possible to state "series includes some vital records" and then
provide a pointer out to an independent list of which records within the
series are vital, or to have an "A, B, C..." listing within a series to
describe each record type (by name) within a series is vital and annotate is
as such, but unless this is a limited number of records, it seems like a lot
of extra work to maintain.
