Funnily, I've only experienced the exact opposite with attorneys...keeping
absolutely everything including copies of copies 'just in case". In case
of what?!?! Going back to the thread earlier this week about hoarders, I
think almost every attorney I've ever met would qualify for that show.
Just last week I surprised an attorney when I shattered her belief in the
non-permanence of legal records by pointing out that the company's
retention schedules specifically concerning legal records applies to legal
records created and used by the company's attorneys, and that her records
are not exempt from corporate policy. She's been with the company longer
than I and was required to take a webinar on record retention.
As I'm wont to say, people can be very smart and educated yet still be
totally clueless (especially for topics that are closely aligned to their
areas of expertise).
