<In the ones I left, the presenters were introducing a topic, dancing around it, then asking for examples from the audience, or breaking attendees into workgroups to make it a self-service learning experience.  When I spend this kind of money for an educational event, I expect to be educated by someone who is considered an SME on a topic, not to provide the content myself.>

But this is the ARMA Program Committee and ARMA HQ approved approach to "facilitating" a session.  Lots of interaction - the more the better.  Those presenting are not called "presenters" or "speakers" but "facilitators."  To be honest, this was the second year I presented an Educational Foundation research paper, and it is very difficult to have audience interaction when presenting the results of one's research.  I didn't try beyond asking some questions of the audience to show hands if they fit a category or knew of a particular law.
