Hello all,
Following on from the concerns raised here by John and others about cloud computing ... I attended a Cloud Camp event earlier this year, and a point stressed by several speakers in relation to these issues was how crucial it was for clients to (a) really think about and hammer out appropriate service level agreements with cloud providers and (b) to retain robust back-up strategies.
I seem to remember a discussion on this list about the importance of having off-store storage contracts gone over with a fine-tooth comb by the RIM, legal and procurement departments to ensure that the service agreements actually met expectations; the same would appear to apply to cloud services.
In light of this, it would be an interesting development if one or more of the various RIM professional bodies - nationally, globally, whatever - were to draft some generic service level agreements / contracts for cloud computing services - this would be invaluable to those working 'at the coalface' in circumstances where IT and / or management are pressing to adopt cloud computing services with thought only of the potential and not the pitfalls.
Regards,
Rachel.
