The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has established
the Center for Advanced Systems and Technologies (NCAST) to serve as
NARA's lead technology organization for advanced and applied research in
the fields of computer science, engineering, and archival science. NCAST
will address three major needs. (1) It will expand the scope of the
advanced technology research that the Electronic Records Archives (ERA)
Research Program has supported to a broader, NARA-wide perspective to
identify, explore and evaluate new developments in computer science and
related fields that are likely to impact the lifecycle management of
records. (2) It will inaugurate a new applied research program to help
bring the best new technologies and methods into NARA. (3) It will
partner with other NARA offices to identify the specific types of
expertise they will need in carrying out their function and to help them
acquire or develop this expertise.

The NCAST website was recently launched. You can find more information
about NCAST at: http://www.archives.gov/ncast/
