When imaging small thermal printouts (gas station receipts, credit card receipts, etc.), I have used the practice of taping the printout to a blank sheet of paper. You need to be cautious with this practice. Most tape will cause the "ink" to fade. Avoid taping the printed areas. Also, as previously stated, thermal prints have a tendency to fade in certain environments. They should be imaged as soon as possible.

As Larry mentioned, if you are dealing with large printouts that are beyond the size of normal page sizes, you will need to consider cutting/stitching the pages or purchasing a scanner that is capable of very long page sizes. I haven't been in the market for such scanners recently, but I know they existed in the past.
