--Prove regulatory compliance
--Defend against law suits
--Protect intellectual properties and vital records
--Improve efficiency
--Raise customer satisfaction & preserve a good reputation
Join Gordon for an all-day session as he identifies
--The need for RIMS for modest organizations
--Obstacles to establishing a RIM program
--Potential, existing resources for a RIM program
--Strategies and tactics for instituting RIM

PLANNING & MANAGING AN ELECTRONIC RECORDS PROGRAM (Track 2)
Michel Hoyle
Michael is a consultant and a research associate of the UK-based International Records Management Trust (IRMT). He has over 20 years experience working in various countries on records and archives management. As Project Manager/Lead Researcher for IRMT, his most recent project focused on electronic records management guidance and training.
RIM involves managing records in all formats from their creation to their ultimate disposal. The growing use of computers and the consequent creation of more and more electronic records are putting pressure on organizations to manage increasingly decentralized record-keeping systems. As a result, many organizations find that it is more and more difficult to locate information when it is required. The end result is, at best, a disjointed approach to office work and, at worst, chaos.
In order to support effective electronic records management, this session examines issues involved with planning and managing electronic records management programs. Key objectives include
--Understand the purpose and scope of electronic records management (ERM) policies and the elements that should be included in a strong and sustainable policy.
--Know the steps involved in planning electronic records management program.
--Be aware of the issues involved with selecting and implementing electronic records management systems
