Dear List:
I am forwarding a message written by Charles Dollar, the Chair of the
Emmett Leahy Award Committee (ELAC), who does not subscribe to this
list. Here it is:
"January 31, 2010
Patrick Cunningham is correct about the Emmett Leahy Award not being
a posthumous award, There are two reasons for this. First, the
Emmett Leahy Award Committee (ELAC) consists of the previous ten
award recipients, each of whom agrees to serve for ten years on the
Committee. Thus, each year a previous award recipient retires and
the new award recipient joints the Committee. Second, the Emmett
Leahy Award Committee is actively engaged in the promotion of
excellence in records and information management at a global level by
taking on important initiatives, publishing articles, and organizing
sessions for and presenting papers at professional association
meetings. I invite readers of this list to go to
<http://www.emmettleahyaward.org>www.emmettleahyaward.org for more
information about Emmett Leahy, the Emmett Leahy Award, and the
Emmett Leahy Award Committee.
On a somewhat related note, the 2010 Emmett Leahy Award Announcement
is being posted on a number of web sites and list serves, including
the Association of Canadian Archives, the Society of American
Archivists, the International Council of Archives, the Records
Management Society of the UK, the Records and Information Management
Africa, the Records Management Association of Australia, the
Institute of Certified Records Managers, the Council of State
Archivists, and the National Association of Government Records
Administrators and Archivists.
The Emmett Leahy Award Committee invites nominations of any
individual without regard for professional affiliation whose
contributions have had a major impact on the records and information
management profession.
Charles Dollar, Chair, Emmett Leahy Award Committee
