Hi Jamie.....
I'm surprised that management of your retention schedule is not one of
your tasks in your job description. If it is not, it should be.
That being said, it is the responsibility of every records manager to
update and change their retention schedule on an ongoing basis. It is not
a static document but one which changes frequently.
In our case, our records classification and retention schedule are rolled
into one document. Three years ago we completely revamped the
classification to better reflect a functional classification as well as
doing away with categories which are somewhat similar and caused confusion
to our users. Now users have little doubt as to where to store their
records.
