I think it was a good thread. There's no reason to be afraid to use the
same vendor out of hand, but to me it's just important that each line of
service be evaluated and considered individually. Also, beware of asking
for answers from sales reps. Get answers with your eyes and with phone
calls to customers, hopefully those you can verify independent of a list the
vendor may provide. Also when you do use references, make sure you're
talking to the one who is heavily involved day to day with the vendor and
the one who works with the vendor on their billing. Sometimes you may hear
good things at a VP level because they are thankful to have a shredding
program at all, but those who work with the vendor day to day can sometimes
yield a harvest of good insight.

Subject: Shredding and offsite storage--same vendor? (follow-up)

Good morning... I just want to say thanks for all the great comments-both on
and off-list. Like some of you, we also have multiple locations to be
serviced. We're in 13 states in the SW, SE, and east coast, and thought
that using one vendor for these services would be the practical thing to do.
In theory it probably should've been, but the reality is that we've had a
number of challenges on both the storage and shredding sides with this
particular vendor. All of our shredding and storage-related services are
tied together in the same contract, so, at the very least we may need to
look at separating them for the very reasons that many of you mentioned.

We'll continue to evaluate our options and do what's best for Colonial.

Again, thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated!
Earl
