I carry around a blackberry for work (passwords strictly enforced) and an iPhone for personal use.  I had my iPhone stolen last fall (don't get me started there LOL) but I had the auto-lock password set so wasn't too worried about it.  I also have the "erase data" function set so that it will erase all data on the phone after 10 failed passcode attempts.  Simple steps definitely make for a lot less stress if something should happen to your device.
