Morning Session 1: From Records Management to Information Risk
Management

Patrick J. Cunningham, CRM, is Director, Information Management,
Collection & Preservation for Motorola Inc. in Schaumburg, Illinois. He
directs Motorola’s global records management, computer forensics,
e-discovery and IT data privacy programs. Cunningham holds a bachelor of
arts in history from Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois, and a master
of arts in public history from Loyola University of Chicago. This
session will present a case study of the evolution of Motorola’s Records
Management function to an integrated Information Risk Management program
within the Asset Protection Services function. This session will
describe the advantages and disadvantages of such an arrangement and
further describe the opportunities for extension of records management
principles into newly relevant processes.

Objectives: 1) Understand the structure of an information risk
management program
 2) Identify opportunities to expand and extend RIM functionality into
information risk management 3) Obtain insight into the security
professional’s mindset and priorities.

Afternoon Session 2: Generally Accepted Records keeping Principles
(GARP)

Doug Allen, CRM, CDIA, is the President of ARMA International Records
and Recordkeeping are inextricably linked with any organized activity.
As a key resource in the operation of any organization, records must be
created, organized, secured, maintained, and used in a way that
effectively supports the activity of that organization. To help
organizations achieve this transparency, ARMA International developed
(GARP). Similar to the General Accepted Accounting Principles, GARP
forms the basis upon which every effective records program will be
built, the yardstick by which organizations will be measured, and the
standard by which organizations will be held accountable. Attendees will
learn about the individual principles, how each will address the needs
and expectations of government, business, and
the general public. The session will also examine the various levels of
the maturity model being developed by ARMA International as a tool to
evaluate the progress an organization makes in implementing the
principles.
