Alex,

We're using SharePoint 2007 right now--and have been for about 1.5 years now, but plan to upgrade to SharePoint 2010 sometime later this year or early next year. There have been a number of discussions in the listserv on the value of SharePoint from a records management perspective, and you can research the archives to learn more. SharePoint has been great as an intranet and a collaborative tool, but, in my opinion, way short as any sort of solution towards managing records. I say this despite the DoD 5015 certification for SharePoint 2007 Records Center. My understanding is that SharePoint 2010 has greatly improved the records management-related short comings, and I am anxious to learn more about it.

Like most everyone else, we're still looking for ways to better manage electronic and physical records, and while there are a number of applications that claim to be "fully integrated" with SharePoint, we're still looking. I used to belong to a couple of SharePoint user groups but they tend to be dominated by vendors, so it's been challenging to find other records managers who also operate under the SharePoint platform. Maybe that has changed by now, so I may peek back into some of these groups to see who is there.

Microsoft actually has an office in the office park we're in, just across the street, and we've met with them a number of times to discuss SharePoint and records management. Maybe it's me... but I'm still not sure that they (and other vendors) "get it" yet about records management.

Thanks.
Earl

Earl,

Could you tell something more about sharepoint.
Does it answer your needs and company's needs?

Alex
