The following cost justification tool recently came to my attention.

I share it to help RIM professionals meet their need to keep current and
perform their job better.

At this time, it is particularly applicable for those wanting to attend
the upcoming National Conference on Managing Electronic Records
(MER'10).

As MER co-chair, I hope this cost justification tool will facilitate
your attending the MER in May in Chicago ...or some other future
professional event, such as the 2010 ARMA International conference next
fall in San Francisco.

Just "personalize" the following letter ...for your organization, and
for the event you want to attend.

Dear [your supervisor/manager/director],

I am seeking approval for the registration fee and travel expenditures
to attend the 2010 MER Conference hosted by Cohasset Associates. The
conference is in its 18th year and is recognized as the leading
conference in managing electronic records. The 3-day conference runs
from May 17-19 with full-day pre-conference sessions on Sunday May 16.
I realize that our travel budget is tight this year so I recommend that
this be the one conference I attend.

The MER is well-known for its high level of quality education and
excellent value:

*	26 sessions offering real-world insight from federal judges,
prominent attorneys, seasoned consultants, and industry experts.

*	3 tracks that offer a technical, operational, and legal focus.

*	7 case studies where peers from prominent firms such as
Prudential Financial, Fidelity Investments, Bank of America, HCSC,
MillerCoors and Grant Thornton will be detailing how they confronted the
challenges of managing electronic records - and share the lessons they
learned.

*	2 networking receptions for peer-to-peer interactive discussions
on operations issues, technology trends, and implementation strategies.
Here I will be able to learn about best practices from other attendees
working on the same priorities.

*	Exhibitors: I've reviewed the MER exhibitor list and there are a
number of vendors participating that I plan to evaluate for future use.
Exhibitor meetings at the MER conference are more productive private 1:1
sessions. I plan on scheduling meetings with Vendor A, Vendor B, Vendor
C (Choose from Access Sciences, CA, Cohasset Associates, EMC, Gimmal
Group, HP TRIM, Huron Consulting, IBM, NextPage, OpenText, Perceptive
Software, Robbins-Goia, Tab Products, Zazio Enterprises).

*	Pre-conference Tutorial: I am willing to dedicate Sunday to
attend the pre-conference tutorial PRE-CON XYZ (Choose from Assured
Records Management, AIIM Electronic Records Management Practitioner
Certificate Program, SharePoint Content Governance - Best Practices,
Advance Topics in Managing Electronic Health Care Records, A New Tool
for RIM Professionals to Achieve a Higher Performance Standard and Meet
the Needs of 21st Century Organizations).

*	Plus, I can earn continuing education credits (ICRM or AHIMA)
for attending the MER conference.

Here is a complete breakdown of the conference costs:

Airfare: $
Transportation: $
Hotel: $
Meals: $
Conference Fee: $ 1,695

Pre-Conference Tutorial: $645
TOTAL:

When I get back, I'd be happy to meet with xxxx, xxxx and xxxx to share
what I learned.

Thank you for your consideration of this unique opportunity.

Your standard close

For your consideration.

Regards,

Bob
